CoraVLC Zwolle-Groningen map

Hello, i figured i’d create a topic so i can show off what im doing with the map editor!

I decided to build a railway line inspired by the Zwolle to Groningen railway line in The Netherlands. I’ve made a small start so far. I decided to start with Meppel station. I’m not fully done with it as i plan to add 1 or 2 more industries here. Meppel in real life sees long distance intercity services however key to note is that the intercity trains to Groningen do not serve Meppel. For today my goal is to add a few more industries to Meppel and fix “Meppel Aansluiting” as i’m not quite happy with the curve and connection right now.

The map will predominantly be 90mph so i could see fast engines work very well here (BR01.10, other similiar engines capable of 75-100mph). Please note that i do not aim to replicate a historically accurate rendition of the route instead i aim to create a loosely inspired map with a few additions here and there to make gameplay in Railroader fun!

First capture: We see the main Meppel station (lacks platforms as i didnt find such asset). The industry closest to the camera is Meppel PTT which deals with mail (set to general goods). The spur iin the background is the team track. I’ve given Meppel a coal tower and water column as Meppel is quite far away to the next major stop on the line Assen roughly 49km, 30.5mi. However the line speed is 90mph (140kph/86mph in the real world) so i do not think this distance will be too bad in actual gameplay but time will tell.

Second capture: The to be redesigned “Meppel Aansluiting” translated: Meppel Junction. In the real world trains heading from Leeuwarden to Meppel can pass at 75mph however in the real world no trains that come from Leeuwarden (passenger trains) actually skip Meppel. Here i’ve used artistic freedom. I’ve somewhat mirrored the real world situation and trains coming from Groningen in my rendition of the situation instead will be able to maintain their linespeed resulting in the wide curve but im not quite happy yet with the situation so im now going to re do it.

Edit: I just realized that i’ve built the junction on the complete wrong side of the map. Oops well its still fixable xD So its getting overhauled anyway xD

I’ve finished my railroader session for today.

Time to show some stuff off:

The reworked Meppel Junction seen with a B65 and a double header F71 passing through.

A C55 hauling the tankers to the port in Delfzijl, notice the extremely long right hander the locomotive is traversing, Linespeed here as mentioned is 90mph.

An intercity overtaking a shunting move in Koekange. To break up the monotone inbetween Meppel and Hoogeveen i decided to make Koekange a bit bigger and give it an industry and 2 passing tracks where you could let faster trains overtake slower ones.

Amazing work! Welcome to the Railroader community btw, good to have ya here.

Didnt get too much work done today but i did get a few things done.

We arrived into Hoogeveen which i’ve gone wild on with the artistic freedom, I’ve added 2 industries here. This capture is from the industry area, The curve that the G16 is traversing is not really ment for actual use, It’s there if you want to take the risk and bypass the run around in Hoogeveen (and i just wanted to try building a triangle of some sort although i only decided that AFTER laying 2 parts so the curve ended up being really small)

In real life this station was demoted to a simple stop along the free line. In my rendition it has 2 passing loops (650m long iirc about 2200ft). To be outright honest making the line as it is in real life in the current age it would be very boring for railroader so hence why i spice things up quite often along the way.

My next goal is to make a sawmill in Wijster, might not be accurate but the other places i have in mind in my opinion are not really fitting for a sawmill. Wijster used to have the VAM location so making an industry here isnt that far off from the truth. But that is something for during the weekend :stuck_out_tongue:

Today i did not make any forward progress but i’ve completely revamped Meppel

Here’s the old Meppel

And now for some screenshots from when i was working on it

Completely bulldozed Meppel to the ground, fresh start

During the station area build.

Because of the long distances Meppel has recieved a repair station eventhough it (probably) not had one ever in its service years. This once again is purely an adaptation to make the line work better in Railroader:

Another thing to note: Meppel can NOT do overhauls (the option has been disabled in the editor). You’ll have to visit Onnen or Zwolle (both to still be built) to overhaul your engines! You could very well station an engine or two here but for overhauling purposes you have to go elsewhere :stuck_out_tongue:

The area looks much better in my opinion compared to before. The finished shed is now visible.

Aaaand finished!:

A mixed freight is standing in the sidings (probably heading towards Leeuwarden, back in the 40’s there were a few small local railways in Fryslan (the provence where the other line goes that the line in this mod diverges from). A C55 can be seen probably getting maintenance in the small repair station. A K28T tank engine is spotting 2 coal wagons so engines can refuel here. A G25 is pulling the local train from Groningen to Zwolle all while the Intercity to Groningen hauled by 2 B65’s comes speeding through! (In real life the intercity to leeuwarden which stops here is right behind!
