Built in 1914 and 1915 by ASEA and Vagn-& Maskinfabriksaktiebolaget for the Swedish State Railways, the Pa was one of the earliest classes of express electric locomotive ever delivered in Sweden. They were designed alongside the completion of the Malmbananâs electrification with two ordered as experimental electric locomotives. Being the first state-owned electrified railway there was some issues including very strangely the fact that these were used on ore drags in spite of the fact that they were very much designed around passenger operations. They were also originally just classified as the P but with the delivery of more locomotives they were reclassified as Pa and put on fast passenger workings and its construction out of mostly wood with a thin metal skin over the top made it relatively light as well. In this guise both locomotives served on into the 1950s when passenger traffic dwindled and both were retired in the late 1950s. Sadly Pa 28 was scrapped but thankfully Pa 27 was preserved, being today found at the Swedish National Railway Museum in Gävle where it occasionally runs.
Yeah, Nohabs were pretty cool back then.
Still see the MY variant of it running here in Denmark. best diesel sound ever.
In Hungary, they were withdrawn from passenger service in 2000, but quite a few are still around, used for odd jobs and retro railway weekends. A few are in private hands, like Ketty here, with her unique Santa Fe-esque paint job! Another one called the âGreen Dragonâ was auctioned recently for roughly 200K$ after the private operator owning it went bust.
I beleave we also had a few of those under DSB at one point
idk when tho (kinda out of touch on the diesel side
)
I was going to ask about the ATSF-inspired livery and here you post it! Awesome!
Ketty is so COOL!!
Next time I see family in Sweden Iâll have to go!
Thank you for showing this!
